Duo Lea und Esther Birringer

LEA & ESTHER BIRRINGER

The duo Lea and Esther Birringer is one of the most prominent sibling ensembles on today’s classical music scene, captivating audiences with their uncompromising artistic quality and gripping programming.

The sisters garnered international attention in 2011 when they won the prestigious chamber music competitions Premio Vittorio Gui in Florence and the Concorso Internazionale di Musica da Camera Città di Pinerolo, receiving a special prize for the best interpretation of Brahms at the latter. "Artistically, the two beautiful sisters are a force to be reckoned with," wrote Concerti – a review that impressively underscores their musical charisma.

Their shared discography is marked by artistic curiosity and a distinctive, richly colored sonic ideal. Their debut album featuring sonatas by Szymanowski, Hindemith, and Respighi was met with enthusiastic acclaim. "The name Birringer is one to remember," noted WDR.

With their subsequent releases on Rubicon Classics, Lifelines (2018) and Di tanti palpiti (2019), the latter nominated for the ICMA Awards as well as the German Record Critics’ Award, the sisters further solidified their reputation as a musical partnership of the highest caliber.

This trajectory continues in autumn 2026 with their latest joint album Kindred Spirits. The recording brings together works by Amanda Röntgen-Maier, Edvard Grieg, and Clara Schumann, exploring the diverse artistic and biographical connections between these three composers. At the same time, it highlights the rediscovery of Amanda Röntgen-Maier, whose remarkable oeuvre is presented here on equal footing with that of her more widely known contemporaries.
